As the state Board of Education appears ready to substitute “fresh fruit”
for fruit in sugar syrup, some power bar makers are making sure their
customers know their snacks meet the state’s nutritional guidelines. Snacks
like Cliff Bars are now labeling themselves as “SB 19 compliant.” The bill,
authored by Sen. Martha Escutia, set a series of nutritional standards for
food sold in public schools
