It’s good to see some journalists don’t actually fade away. Former LA Times reporter Bob Salladay is back in the game, joining the Center for Investigative Reporting’s new Sacramento bureau as an editor. Salladay will be teamed up with another former Capitol reporter, Mark Katches, who will head CIR’s new California news project. Katches will be based in the Bay Area… And for the record, we’re not just all snark and hear-say in this column. Occasionally, we like to set our sights on something larger, something that promotes a greater sense of community and advances the common good. It is in that vein that we bring you the following public service announcement. Sen Rod Wright has declared August 24 “White Suit Day,” and has invited “legislators and staff to participate in a festive and elegant way to spread the message that white suits are summer attire.” “White suits are to be worn after Memorial Day and before Labor Day,” says Senator Wright.  “After Labor Day white suits should be stored until next year.” The season-appropriate fete ends with a cocktail soiree at Ellas.
