From our “Goin’ Surfing” file, the big story out of last year’s election was how the Republican wave stopped at the Sierra. Now at least one GOP staffer is heading for redder pastures. Seth Unger, who has served as a communications guy in a number of roles, most recently for Assembly Republican leader Connie Conway, is taking his wife Bridget and four sons back to their home state of Ohio. He’s taken a job as press secretary for the new state treasurer, 33-year-old Republican Josh Mandel. We’ll remember Seth as a top flak and a great sport — especially when we put him on the cover of 10,000 Hotel Directories…And speaking of talented staff, let’s take notice of the FPPC executive director Roman Porter, who organized the commission’s first-ever reports on IEs and the impact of the so-called “behested payments” on candidates’ purses. He also pushed for online disclosure of officials’ economic interest statements and enforcement letters. And we’re not saying all this to be fawning and kissy-kissy and hoping he’ll leak to us – that never stopped us before. We just find him helpful….
