Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

The “I loathe Democrats” hatred from the Republican blogger cited by Big Daddy is very sad. But it should come as no surprise.

For at least the past decade, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and their colleagues have been preaching the doctrine that a difference of opinion makes you a traitor; that compromise, cooperation and bipartisanship are dirty words; and that your ideology is more important than your country (or, in this instance, your state).

To make matters worse here in California, our convoluted budget process allows a minority of anti-tax zealots and their legislative clones to tie the state in knots.

Fortunately, the public has begun to grow weary of this destructive partisanship. Working together to solve problems has clearly become more important than political posturing, both at the national level and in our state. President Obama’s enormous approval ratings for endorsing such behavior are no accident.

The “loathing blogger” will someday be an endangered species, hopefully sooner rather than later.
