“So what’s with the Integrated Waste Management Board? It’s at the top of the governor’s hit list, as he made clear in his address to the Legislature. But why?”
You’d think he would’ve delayed appointing three former legislators to the Board if he intended to eliminate it since he has now built in a highly effective lobbying effort against the move.
It’s a sinecure board for defeated and retired politicos — including the ones Arnold himself has appointed. “It” should be done away with. An agency (EPA) can handle these functions.
It is all about image. This board has the worst image of all….so it is gone.
Forget how much the members make, the board actually has “waste” in its name. How could he resist?
Symbolism, pure and simple. Although it’s paid by special funds, it has been a dumping ground for termed-out legislators. If Arnold was serious, he would have not appointed Carole Migden and others. Practice what you preach.
It’s a symbol of everything wrong with Sacramento, with Waste being the ironic operative term. Fat salaries paid to termed-out legislative members performing an unnecessary function. The Board has become the poster child for wasteful government spending and legislative sacred cows. The Governor should have used his blue pencil to defund the Board five years ago.
It’s unnecessary, redundan, and simply a soft landing for favorite political appointees.
Maybe the guv had a meeting with one of his appointees, former state Sen. Carole Migden and she was, well, herself.
The Governor hates sh*t.
