If you buy it in a grocery store, you don’t pay sales taxes. If you buy it from a vending machine, you do. Fair? Assemblyman Matthew Dababneh doesn’t think so, but so far some of his colleagues disagree.

A fiscal emergency in the desert

Desert Hot Springs is considering bankruptcy for the second time in 12 years. On Tuesday, the city council unanimously approved a fiscal emergency. An emergency declaration is a preliminary step in filing for bankruptcy protection, although there was no indication from council members that a bankruptcy action was coming.

“The World’s End” is the final installment in the so-called “Cornetto Trilogy,” named after a British brand of ice cream that appears in all three films. The films are directed by Edgar Wright, co-written by Wright and Simon Pegg, and co-star Pegg and Nick Frost – the two previous films being “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz.”
