Skinny

Police at CalExpo have been under fire for fatally shooting a pregnant cow 11 times when it got loose before opening time on Tuesday morning – pa move witnesses said wasn’t necessary. But these witnesses probably didn’t know that a very similar-looking pregnant black-and-white Holstein went on a 45-minute rampage at the Kalamazoo State Fair in Michigan last year. According to an Aug. 12, 2009 story in the Kalamazoo Gazette, the cow knocked over several people and sent a 43-year-old woman to the hospital with a spinal injury. In an unrelated note, that victim, Pamela Moore, is a resident of Paw Paw, Mich., and is married to a man named Michael Moore. That cow was recaptured without being injured – Fair workers used a newly born calf to lure the loose cow to a corner near the grandstand and Hazel Gray building.” The Kalamazoo State Fair now transports pregnant animals at night to prevent them from getting spooked…Meanwhile, playtime is over. Lawmakers come back from their break – don’t call it recess – Monday bringing a formal end to jeans season at the Capitol. Lawmakers will sprint through hundreds of bills before the August 31 deadline. And who knows? We may even get a budget sometime around then. Any bets?
