Scoring the polls

Capitol Weekly looked at the accuracy of each of four major polls, comparing
them to the actual results from the election. All were final polls,
completed within nine days of the election. Undecideds were discarded from
the calculations.

FIELD POLL
Races predicted correctly: 8 of 8
The number predicted within 3 points: 7
Average points off: 2.5

PPIC
Races predicted correctly: 4 of 5 (Polled Props 73-77; showed a tie on Prop.
75)
The number predicted within 3 points: 2 (all 5 were within 4 points)
Average points off: 3

LA TIMES
Races predicted correctly: 7 of 8
The number predicted within 3 points: 4
Average points off: 3.4

HOOVER/KNOWLEDGE NETWORKS
Races predicted correctly: 7 of 8
The number predicted within 3 points: 2
Average points off: 4.5
