Paths to the third house vary. Mark Weideman came to it via the corporate route, having served as an officer for Blue Shield of California and AT&T, where he oversaw legislative, regulatory, legal and political activities. His lobbying firm, the Weideman Group, is among the most successful in California, currently representing 65 clients with nine registered lobbyists. (That’s a big firm.) Weideman played a big part in enacting laws to create the California Wildlife Fund, expand Medi-Cal to previously ineligible populations and allow terminally ill patients in California to request aid-in-dying drugs. He’s also a licensed attorney in the state and previously practiced with the international law firm Pillsbury and with the Sacramento-based firm Wilke Fleury. He did his undergrad at UC Berkeley and went to law school at Hastings College. Don’t confuse him with the former Australian rules football player of the same name.
