Former Assemblyman Joe Nation accepted a job on Monday with the environmental-consulting firm Environ. He’ll be advising clients on how to reduce carbon emissions and comply with AB 32, the major climate-change bill California passed last year.
Nation said he had offers from a hedge fund and a brokerage to advise on carbon trading, but said he was more interested in the work offered by Environ. This includes projects working with solar power and biogas–that is, getting power from the decomposition of waste materials. The 25-year-old company has offices in 14 different countries.
“I didn’t just want to be dealing with finances,” Nation said. “It’s great that I’ll be able to work with the technologies.”
Nation termed out last year from the San Rafael Assembly seat now occupied by Jared Huffman. He’s been consulting for the RAND Corporation. Starting this fall, he’ll be teaching one class a quarter at Stanford University on topics like climate change and political reform.
