Experts Expound

“With John Garamendi winning — so far — in the 10th Congressional District, who does Gov. Schwarzenegger appoint as Lieutenant Governor if Garamendi wins the Nov. 3 runoff against Harmer?”

Nobody.  Better to save the General Fund money for something useful……

The governor only appoints those who can be confirmed – can you say Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado?

I would say Susan Kennedy, but that would be a demotion for her.

Maria.

Maldonado.

It doesn’t matter. The Senate won’t confirm an appointment this close to the election. Think Deukmejian trying to appoint Dan Lungren treasurer in ‘89. Or the Senate refusing to confirm Wilson’s Regents appointments in ‘98.

Anybody who won’t be a thorn in his side. Short list: Abel Maldonado, Betty Yee, Fabian Nunez, Steve Westly, or Karen Bass (to save her from being ousted by her caucus and getting her out of his way).

Matt Rexroad would be a fine choice.

Don’t have a clue.

Hertzberg if he’s being bold, Maldonado if he’s thinking legacy, and Denham if he plays it safe.

Bob Hertzberg.

Robert Hertzberg. He has the trust of Schwarzenegger and fellow Democrats, is right on the subject of taxes (California Forward) and has the energy, drive, and vision to transform a do-nothing job into something meaningful – if not the governorship.

Patty Berg.
