Capitol Weekly and the UC Student and Policy Center present A POST-MORTEM OF THE 2024 ELECTION, Thursday, November 7, 2024.

A score of experts will join us for an exciting, unique and informative review of the November 5 election, providing analysis, opinions and insight. What happened? Why? What happens next? Nearly two dozen insiders will discuss the results of the election and provide a look-ahead at what it means for 2025 – and beyond.

The 2024 Post-Mortem of the Election is a hybrid event: Panels 1, 2 and 3 will be available for remote viewing on Zoom only. The Luncheon Keynote, The National Picture, will be a live event at the UC Student and Policy Center and will also be available for viewing on Zoom.

9:15 AM – Panel 1: FACE OF THE ELECTORATE

Polls show President Trump improving his numbers with men and Latinos; Will he – and Republicans in tight House races – improve on 2020 results? Also – a rundown on key California races – the battles for Congress and the Legislature. Who are the voters in 2024?

10:30 AM – Panel 2: THE BALLOT INITIATIVES

California voters confronted a wide variety of themes on this year’s ballot including: Rent Control, Increased penalties for theft and drug crime, an Increase to the State’s Minimum Wage, Two $10 Billon bonds, one for to fund construction and modernization of public education facilities, and another to fund state and local parks. We’ll look at these and more.

12:00 NOON – Live Luncheon Keynote: THE NATIONAL PICTURE

The Keynote, The National Picture, will feature a panel of expert voices from both sides of the aisle; the discussion will share insight into how the 2024 election will influence California’s policy and politics in 2025 and beyond. The Keynote is a live event in Sacramento and will also be streamed for remote viewers. Attendance at the Live Event is limited – save your seat early!

1:45 PM – Panel 3: A LOOK AHEAD

What happens now? The results of the presidential contest are more consequential than ever: What will it mean if a former California Senator, Kamala Harris, wins the race? Or, if former President Trump heads back to the White House? Either way, what will be the big issues under the capitol dome next year? And, what next in the race to replace Governor Gavin Newsom in 2026?

There is no cost to attend the live Keynote, but seating is limited and registration is required. Registration for the live event includes lunch and all conference materials.
