Fiscal official in new committee backing Angelides had role in Davis recall

The assistant treasurer of a new campaign committee that began running ads on Sunday on behalf of Phil Angelides also served as treasurer for the group that kicked off the drive to recall former Governor Gray Davis, according to disclosure records filed with the Secretary of State’s office

The new committee, which officially operates independently of Angelides’ campaign for governor, was launched with $5 million from Sacramento developer Angelo Tsakapolous, a long-time business partner of Angelides, and Tsakapolous’ daughter, Eleni Tsakapolous-Kounalakis.

The committee’s assistant treasurer is Vona Copp, who previously worked for Rescue California
