Kamala Harris will not run for Governor

Former Vice President Kamala Harris ended speculation that she would run for governor of California with posts on social media this afternoon.
“In recent months I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their Governor. I love this state, its people, and its promise. But, after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election,” she wrote.
Harris, the child of immigrants who served as California Attorney General, US Senator, Vice President, and was the first Asian-American to top a major party presidential ticket, had been seen as a near-unbeatable candidate in the governor’s race – if she decided to run. Her announcement effectively resets the race, though some recent Democratic polling shows former Rep. Katie Porter with a sizable lead over her intraparty rivals.
While she made no mention of other aspirations, her announcement fuels speculation that she will make another bid for the White House in 2028.
