We’re entering the final two weeks of the gubernatorial signing session and Gavin Newsom has over 700 bills to act upon. Here are a few high profile measures he signed this week, a few more bills folks are closely watching and some interesting legislative data from intrepid Capitol insider Chris Micheli.
Gov. Newsom announced today that he has named Lauren Sanchez as the new Chair of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), replacing Liane Randolph who will retire on September 30. Sanchez has been Gov. Newsom’s Senior Advisor for Climate since 2021.
This week was overwhelmed by the battle over redistricting, but there were other things going on as well.

Things have slowed down a bit now that we are past the house of origin deadline, but there is still plenty going on in California politics.
It was an intense day in California politics, starting with California’s senior U.S. Senator Alex Padilla being forcibly removed from a Department of Homeland Security press conference in the morning and then U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer agreeing to California’s request for a temporary restraining order to wrestle control of the state National Guard back from President Donald Trump in the late afternoon.
