Letter to the editor: Prop 2 a forward thinking investment in school infrastructure

Californians recently passed Proposition 2, a much-needed and forward-thinking investment in our public school infrastructure that will benefit K-12 schools and community colleges. Prop 2 authorizes the state to allocate $10 billion in bonds for critical infrastructure projects, including emergency repairs, classroom remodeling, safety enhancements, and removing lead from school water supplies.

This proposition ensures a dedicated funding stream for school repairs and guarantees that every child in California’s public schools will have access to clean, safe drinking water. While it’s long overdue to establish this statewide standard, it is heartening to see California voters prioritize the health, safety, and future of our students.

As an Education Specialist in the Fresno Unified School District, I see every day how much students depend on their schools for stability, safety, and essential needs like breakfast, lunch, and safe drinking water. Knowing that the state is stepping up to support schools inspires hope and optimism for the future of public education in California.
