A retirement fair for members of the California Public Employees Retirement System, one of a series of events statewide this year to educate members about their retirement options, is scheduled Aug. 22-23 at the Sacramento Convention Center.

CalPERS members include all state employees, all classified public school employees, Sacramento State University employees, and employees of local governments such as the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.

Due to growing interest in retirement planning, CalPERS is expanding its annual series of statewide retirement planning fairs. This year, more fairs are scheduled at more locations throughout the state – 23 fairs in 20 cities – from late April to early November.

CalPERS members who attend the fairs – employees of the state, local government, and public schools – will receive information on CalPERS benefits, programs, and services to help them plan for a financially secure retirement. Retirees receive information about how to better manage their retirement assets.

Topics include health benefits and long-term care insurance, the impact on retirement of service credits, CalPERS member home loans, supplemental income plans and other issues.

Other booths will feature representatives from Social Security, the State Savings Plus Program, the State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS), and various public employee and public retiree organizations.

In addition, there are workshops on CalPERS benefit basics, retirement service credit, Social Security, CalPERS supplement income plans, CalPERS online services, CalPERS member home loans, CalPERS health benefits, and the State Savings Plus Program. Workshop seating is limited, but fair attendees can pre-register on a first-come-first-serve basis when they arrive.
