The Skinny: Moving on

Ah, we can say that we knew him when. A hearty congrats to former Capitol Weekly staffer Shane Goldmacher, who was hired this week as the newest member of the Los Angeles Times Capitol bureau. Goldmacher had spent the last two years breaking stories for the Sacramento Bee and relaunching its online Capitol news service, Capitol Alert. Also a big congratulations to Los Angeles Times Capitol bureau chief Evan Halper, who was able to wrangle a new Sacramento hire for the paper at a time when no paper is getting new Capitol hires. The Times has been hit hard by departures this year, losing Dan Morain, Nancy Vogel, Jordan Rau, Bob Durell and Virginia Ellis in the last year…And while we reported that Ed Garcia was leaving the Merc, we got some of the details wrong. Garcia is in fact going to Kaiser, but not to the foundation’s new journalism venture. Garcia left the paper after nearly 17 years to handle media relations for Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento…And from our Seen Around Town files, we were a bit curious to hear just what Susan Kennedy and Jon Fleischman were discussing over lunch at Spataro’s last week. Actually, maybe it’s better we don’t know…
