The Skinny: Lone wolf

With the legislative session dragging on into the early morning Saturday hours on Sept. 13, Darrell Steinberg made a call. The senate leader decided to cancel a trip planned for himself and a group of colleagues to hold meetings with Washington muckity-mucks and lobby for some federal cash. Apparently, Alan Lowenthal didn’t get the memo. The trip was supposed to be a bicameral trip. Assemblymembers kept their plans, and Karen Bass and a handful of Democratic lawmakers made the pilgrimage East. Apparently, Lowenthal didn’t find out that his colleagues would not be joining him until Assemblyman Mike Feuer broke the news to him on the plane. Lowenthal also found himself without a hotel room upon his arrival, since the Senate rooms had all been canceled. But Lowenthal got an assist from the speaker’s staff, who found Lowenthal a room. The lone senator joined members of the Assembly in a round of meetings last Monday, and then flew home…Sam Blakeslee has hired former Chuck Poochigian spokesman Seth Unger to take over communications for the Assembly Republican Caucus.
