So, when he’s not busy trying to get term limits extended for buddy Bill Burke, what is former Senator Richard Polanco up to these days? Apparently, running for city council. Polanco, who has served as a registered lobbyist since his time in office, has opened a committee to begin fundraising for a run for council in 2009. The committee has been formed, but no money has yet been raised. We may know more on July 31, the deadline for every committee to report it’s fundraising figures for the first half of 2007. …

Earlier this week, the Democrats’ legislative softball team was seen practicing at Roosevelt Park for the annual Dems. vs. Reeps fundraiser at Raley Field. The early scouting report indicates Paul Krekorian and Kevin De Leon will be in the outfield, an all-rookie infield of Mike Feuer at first, Felipe Fuentes at second, Alex Padilla at third and Jared Huffman at shortstop. Fellow froshes Fiona Ma, Anna Caballero, Mary Hayashi, and Anthony Portantino also were out practicing. If history is any indication, they’re going to need it. For the last couple of years, the Guy Houston-led Republican teams have dominated the Dems on the field, exacting revenge for everything the Democrats do to the Republicans during the legislative session. Last year, Houston hit two home runs and won the game’s MVP award. This year’s game is scheduled for August 21. …
