Though we never did get that budget, both the Assembly and Senate did pass a measure just before the Assembly recessed for a month. The measure, SB 484 by Sen. Alan Lowenthal, would give control over a recall election in the city of Lynwood to the L.A. County Registrar’s Office. Petitions have been filed to recall four members of the city council, but the council, for obvious if not entirely legal reasons, has refused to call the election. One interesting Sacramento side note to the brouhaha: Among those who voted for the bill was Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, even though a member of Dymally’s district staff, Leticia Vasquez, is one of the members facing a recall. …
