Sean Walsh isn’t the only former gubernatorial press-office inhabitant to be moving on to a highfalutin political-consulting firm. While Walsh is joining forces with his former boss, Pete Wilson, Michael Bustamante, former press secretary to Gray Davis, is moving in with Wilson’s former chief of staff, Bob White. Bustamante is the latest to join California Strategies, the firm that includes former lawmakers Jim Brulte and Rusty Areias, among others. … Gov. Schwarzenegger and members of his administration have been leaning on Modesto Sen. Jeff Denham for a budget vote, through a series of appearances and op-eds in various newspapers around the state. This week, Denham’s chief of staff, Jim Kjol, fought back with some penmanship of his own. In a letter to Finance chief Mike Genest, Kjol wrote, “Mike, next time Susan Kennedy tells you to jump, instead of asking her ‘How high Susan?’, you might want to just say ‘No.'” … And we have an update on the portrait of Bob Margett. Apparently, the portrait was reclaimed from Adam Mendelsohn’s office during one of the recent late-night budget standoffs. Sometime around midnight, a team of Margett staffers appeared, and the portrait was whisked away, reportedly to the living room of a retiring CHP lieutenant …
