The Skinny

As the Fred Thompson presidential campaign ramps up, it’s taking a lot of Californians along with it. Or former Californians, anyway. Last week, Thompson tapped Todd Harris, who worked for Gov. Schwarzenegger’s recall campaign team, to head the communications department for the soon-to-be-announced campaign. Harris then turned to another former Californian, Karen Hanretty, to serve as deputy communications director. And we hear that another Schwarzenegger veteran, Darrell Ng, will soon be joining Team Thompson. The newly assembled team will get a chance to spar with other communications pros with California on their resumes–Rob Stutzman and Sara Pompei are working for Mitt Romney, and Schwarzenegger 2006 vet Katie Levinson is guiding Rudy Giuliani’s communications team. …

Closer to home, the shaekup at the California Chamber of Commerce continues. The chamber’s top lobbyist, Dominic DiMare, is going out on his own, teaming up with the lobbying firm of Dunlap, Van Vleck & Brown. And former Mark Wyland chief of staff Peter DeMarco has landed a corporate gig, running the corporate relations department for Allstate Insurance.
