The Skinny

Love conquers all, even in the Capitol, and the latest proof is Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, who got married on Nov. 11 to Jason Hodge, political director of the Ventura County Professional Firefighters. Ma, a San Francisco Democrat, and Hodge met last year at a state Democratic Convention in Los Angeles – proof, if any were needed, to ignore Capitol Weekly’s dictum that all political conventions are a waste of time. Clearly, this was love at first sight and despite logistical and other differences – according to The Chronicle, they haven’t spent more than three days together during the 18 months they dated, except for one brief vacation – they developed into soul mates. Other factoids: He’s a 6-foot-5 American Indian, she’s a 5-foot-4 Chinese American. He fights fires, she crunches numbers (Ma is a CPA in private life). He lives in Southern California, she lives in the North, although that likely will change. Hodge also hopes to run for the Assembly, ignoring another Capitol Weekly rule that elected officials shouldn’t be allowed to procreate. And they’re both wonderfully attractive, which is why we’re writing about them in the first place … Congrats!
