The Skinny

The governor had a busy day Tuesday. First, he told La Opinion that he
regrets his vote in favor of Proposition 187. Then he strongly suggested to
the Los Angeles Times that LAUSD schools chief Roy Romer should be axed. And
to cap it all off, he mixed it up down in San Diego with a group of hostile
Republican immigration activists. In La Mesa, one woman told the governor,
“Right now, I don’t see much difference between you and Phil Angelides. …
I don’t see where you’re standing up for the citizens of California.”
Schwarzenegger responded as any governor would–by blaming the federal
government, saying the feds are not doing enough to secure the borders.
Then, Brad Boswell criticized the guv, saying he has “let out more murderers
than Michael Dukakis.” We’re waiting for Bill Carrick and Team Angelides to
get their Willie Horton ad ready. … The guv called his travel agent this
week, and cancelled his trip to Mexico, much to the dismay of journalistic
junket seekers everywhere. According to his press secretary, Margita
Thompson
, the governor “felt it was appropriate to reschedule his trade
mission in November. President Fox shared the Governor’s desire to allow
Mexico to concentrate on concluding its election before we conducted the
trade mission. The Governor looks forward to a successful trade mission
later this year.”
