Recognition strike: UC student researchers favor walk out

Tis’ the season to strike? University of California Student Researchers United (SRU) from all 10 campuses and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have voted yes, 10,622 out of 10,890, to authorize a recognition strike to form a labor union local with the United Auto Workers (UAW).

About 17,000 graduate student researchers calling themselves Student Researchers United (SRU) at 10 University of California campuses are seeking to form a union with the United Auto Workers, a campaign that began in early 2020. UC management is not wholly on board with this move of unrepresented employees.
