First, job growth was not evenly distributed across the state — roughly 74% of the June job growth was in the Bay Area and Los Angeles unemployment increased by 7,000 claims.

The Employment Development Department said September’s unemployment rate of 7.5% matched August’s 7.5%.

It’s a claim that was close to correct on the numbers, but wrongly implies that half the state does not speak English.

The cut in usage amounted to more than 182,000 acre-feet of water, or about 59.4 billion gallons by urban water suppliers.

(Photo: Vepar5)Under the terms of a legal settlement with the American Civil Liberties Union, Covered California is sending out registration mailers to nearly four million people who sought health insurance. The mailings, which have already begun, are the first step in an ongoing voter registration effort that will include this year’s month-long open enrollment period in the fall, when people choose new coverage plans or switch existing ones, and then continue into the future.
