Slap & Tickle

The best and worst of the week in California politics

State Farm–The largest provider of homeowners insurance in the state
announces a 12 percent rate decrease this week

Arnold Schwarzenegger–This one is for trying to jam billions in compact
deals down the Legislature’s throat in the closing days of session, in a
cynical attempt to force Democrats to choose between labor and the state’s
most powerful tribes.

Phil Angelides–The treasurer picks up a pair of big endorsements this week
from Antonio Villaraigosa and the state prison guard’s union.

Conservatives–These fingers come courtesy of the governor, who spent the
week vetoing bills on single-payer health care and teaching gay history,
while signing bills targeting sex offenders and honoring veterans. Enjoy it
while it lasts.
