In our eternal search for the local angle, we find that Catherine Mandler, daughter of former Capitol Weekly publisher Ken Mandler, is on the ground in Cairo with a ringside seat to the turmoil: Catherine, a student, was enrolled in an Arabic-language program and waiting for classes to begin when the demonstrations erupted. A lot of her American classmates left under pressure from their parents, but she stuck around. Ken notes that she’ll have to learn more Arabic fast to keep up with her Egyptian classmates. Go Catherine!… Darrel Ng, a veteran and talented Republican spokesman who has worked for Pete Wilson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Poizner and Meg Whitman, among others, is headed to the Assembly Republican Caucus as communications director…Another personnel change: Marjorie Berte, an insurance expert who worked for Schwarzenegger as undersecretary for Business, Transportation and Housing, is going to the American Insurance Association digs on L Street as a VP….
