Clinton: California Legislature is ‘most creative’ in nation

Former President Bill Clinton, who plans to come to California next month to campaign for gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown, offered rare words of praise for California legislators.

“I think California has the most creative Legislature in America, if you just look at all the things they’ve done,” Clinton told an interviewer for Yahoo News and the Huffington Post.

“On the other hand, they also can get in financial trouble, so Jerry will figure out how to maximize the creativity and minimize the financial trouble, and I think that’s what California needs,” the former president said in affirming his support for Brown, a fellow Democrat.

Last week at a campaign stop, Brown attacked a commercial aired by rival Meg Whitman that included comments from Clinton, prompting Brown to publicly question Clinton’s veracity. Brown quickly apologized, and Clinton endorsed him for governor.

Meanwhile, California lawmakers are more than 10 weeks into the 2010-11 fiscal year without a budget, a record stalemate.
