CHP says ‘Goodbye Broadway, hello West Sacramento’

The California Highway Patrol hopes to depart its decades-old headquarters three miles from the state Capitol and relocate across the river in West Sacramento–and legislation to help them do just that is on the governor’s desk.
The bill, AB 443, by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk, D-Davis, allows the CHP to relocate its Broadway headquarters and four other administrative offices under one roof within 20 miles from Sacramento proper. In a 2002 study, the Department of General Services’ Real Estate Division identified four out of six proposed locations in West Sacramento as relocation alternatives for the CHP headquarters. The study recommended the most cost-effective location as an existing building on Stillwater Road.
