“A ‘Hail Mary’ at the 11th hour? Gov. Brown goes on the road to sell his budget to the public. Why? Is he launching a campaign for his own ballot initiative?”

Road trips didn’t work for Arnold and they won’t work for Jerry.

This is the official launch of a signature-based ballot initiative.  The Gov can then say, “I kept my promise to go to the people for a vote. Unfortunately, November is very late in the budget process for recipients of state funds.  Many of the cuts, mandated by an all-cuts budget, will already be implemented.  It will be a mess.  Too late to force a June vote based on public outcry.  Still, worth educating the populace on the consequences of the Legislature’s inaction.

Unless he’s got something specific in mind – and even if he does – this road trip is a major waste of time. PPIC says voters are evenly divided on whether to have a special budget election in the first place, and support for taxes among Reeps has dwindled to zilch. I hope he enjoys himself, but if all this is to pave the way for a ballot initiative, then he’d do better to meet with his strategists and do an organized rollout.

On the road again – Canned Heat! At least they had a beat, and you could dance to it.

Charlie Sheen is on the road, too.

What else can he do? Maybe best thing now is to stay in Sacratomato and do a majority-vote budget. Probably should have done that all along.

No effort inside the confines of Sacramento seems able to pressure Republicans to act responsibly. Perhaps a whistle-stop tour of their districts might enflame voters enough to apply pressure from outside the capital. But the governor has to persuade Californians that an all-cuts budget will seriously erode the state’s ability to educate their children, protect their homes and care for its most disadvantaged citizens. That ain’t no easy task.

Yep its his only recourse at this point!  We will see what the voters’ priorities are.

The Gov is going on the road to “show” movement.  I doubt if Dutton or any Rep is shaking in their boots.

The ballot is his only option other than drastic cuts.
